Luxury Home Tax To House Poor
Costa Rican legislators have approved a tax on luxury homes that will help stamp out what is called "precarios" or shantytowns. The tax rule is scheduled to last for ten years.
The luxury home tax applies to all homes valued at more than ˘110 million colons or US$200.000. The tax applies only to the value of the construction and not the land that the home resides.
Applied in a progressive manner, the following is the tax base rate schedule-

| a) Up to ˘ 250.000 .000,00 b) On the excess of 250.000.000,00 and up to ˘ 500.000.000,00 c) Over the excess of C 500.000.000,00 and up to ˘ 750.000.000,00 d) Over the excess of ˘ 750.000.000,00 and up to ˘ 1.000.000.000,00 e) Over the excess of ˘ 1.000.000.000,00 and up to ˘ 1.250.000.000,00 f) Over the excess of ˘ 1.250.000.000,00 and up to ˘ 1.500.000.000,00 g) Over the excess of ˘ 1.500.000.000,00 | 0,25% 0,30% 0,35% 0,40% 0,45% 0,50% 0,55% |
